“Help! Your SSL certificate is invalid, I can't connect”
No. It's not invalid. It's only self-signed and without the signing of a certificate authority (remember? anarchy, you know, no authority but yourself).
So you need to manually accept it. This happens both on the webchat ("add an exception" on Firefox") and on some regular IRC clients, where you have to accept the "invalid" certificate to benefit the encryption. And no, we don't have unencrypted connections.
Help on X-Chat
X-chat is usually provided by your distribution if you use GNU/Linux. Use the package manager to find it. Windows users can use the free version of x-chat, available here: http://www.xchat-wdk.org/ and here: http://code.google.com/p/xchat-wdk/
Get the list of the Networks. You will get a similar list:
Hit "Add" and change the name from NewNetwork to something more significant, like "AnarchyPlanet" or "AnarchistLibrary" or whatever you like. The name is just for your use and doesn't affect the connection.
Then highlight the newly created item and hit "Modify". Set the parameters as shown here:
Please note that sometimes is tricky (on X-chat) to input the server address. Override the newserver/6669 with the new irc.anarchyplanet.org/6697 and hit enter
Be sure to check "Use SSL for all the servers on this network" and "Accept invalid SSL certificate".
Save the settings, go back to the Network List and hit "Connect", while highlighting the "Anarchy Planet" network. You'll see something like this happening:
You're on, congratulation. Don't expect crowds there.
